The matchups and schedules have been announced for the first annual League Champions Cup, a competition between the Under-13 through Under-16 boys and girls champions from Washington Youth Soccer’s Regional Club League (RCL) and B.C. Soccer’s Premier League (BCSPL). The two leagues represent the highest level of league play offered in both Washington and British Columbia, and is the latest in a collaboration to promote soccer in both areas that dates back to the 1950s.

The US Youth Soccer Far West Regional League (FWRL), the top league for competitive teams in Region IV, implemented significant changes for the 2013-14 season when it moved from a region-wide schedule to three geographical divisions. US Youth Soccer’s Region IV, the largest of the country’s four regions, includes all states west from Colorado and the divisions – Northern, Desert and California – were created to cut down on team travel costs while still providing the most competitive platform. ​

The recent death of Salt Lake City, Utah, soccer referee Ricardo Portillo makes me incredibly sad. There isn't a game on earth that is worth someone's life. I read that his family says the parents of the 17-year-old keeper who hit him in the head should bear some of the blame. I guarantee you that neither the parents nor anyone else on the sidelines intended for Portillo's death to happen. But time and time again I've watched negative energy result in unintended consequences.
