Schedule announced for 2014-15 US Youth Soccer National League

The schedule has been announced for the opening weekend of the 2014-15 US Youth Soccer National League season, as the Girls gather Nov. 20-23 in Wilson, N.C. National League Boys will kick off three weeks later, Dec. 11-14. Games will be played in conjunction with the CASL Showcase, creating another significant opportunity for the nation’s collegiate, professional and national team coaches to see National League players in an environment of meaningful play.

US Youth Soccer is proud to announce the schedule for the annual US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Boys Thanksgiving Interregional, set to take place Nov. 27- Dec.1 at Grande Sports World in Casa Grande, Ariz. The Washington Youth Soccer Coaching Department has announced the seventh Special Topics Coaching Seminar for 2014 to be held October 29 from 7-8 PM at Starfire Sports in Tukwila. The session, titled “Coaching the Challenging Player,” will be delivered by Gwynne Williams, a U.S. Soccer Federation staff coach, national US Youth Soccer instructor and former Assistant Coach for the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer.

Managing Osgood-Schlatter

A common overuse syndrome in young soccer players is Osgood Slaughters. The symptoms are pain and often some swelling about two inches below the kneecap in the front of the knee. The patellar tendon attaches here on a bump of bone called an apophysis. Irritation of this attachment site and the apophysis can occur with repetitive running and jumping activities. It's no surprise, then, that adolescent soccer players suffer from this problem.
