The Washington Youth Soccer Founders Cup concluded last month, and what a run it was. Hundreds of District and Association-level teams kicked off the tournament just after New Years and competed for a month in the cold rain — and, at times, even snow — for the right to be called a Washington Youth Soccer champion.
Semifinals were played Feb. 8 at Starfire Sports, with finals scheduled the following day. A snowstorm postponed most championship matches, but teams needing to stay overnight were able to get their games played thanks to parents, referees, volunteers and Washington Youth Soccer staff, who donned dozens of snow shovels to help make the fields playable by Sunday afternoon. The remaining finals were played individually outside the finals weekend and concluded in late February.
Congratulations to all the teams that reached the semi-final stages of this year’s Founders Cup, and thank you to the legion of parents, volunteers, referees and others whose contributions made this year’s tournament a success.
